Steroids Possession Charges in NJ
New Jersey law prohibits possession of steroids, unless you have a valid prescription. These prohibited steroids include: Boldenone Chlorotestosterone, Clostebol, Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, Dihydrotestosterone, Ethylestrenol, Fluoxymesterone, Formebulone, Methandriol, Methandrostenolone, Oxandrolone, Oxymetholone, Stanolone, Testosterone, and any salt, ester, or isomer from one of the prohibited steroids that promotes muscle growth.
Under N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10, it is illegal to possess any amount of steroids in New Jersey without a valid prescription from a licensed medical practitioner. If you are convicted of violating New Jersey Law regarding possession of steroids, you may face a sentence of between 3 and 5 years of imprisonment and fines as high as $35,000. If convicted of a third degree steroids possession crime, your driver’s license will also be revoked for a period of six months.
Intent to Distribute Steroids & Distribution in New Jersey
N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5 sets forth penalties for those convicted of distributing or possessing with the intent to distribute steroids. To be convicted of steroids distribution, you do not need to fall under the classic stereotype of a drug dealer. If you are giving out steroids to your friends, you can be charged with and convicted of drug distribution, depending on how many doses you have given away. The penalties for this offense vary depending on the number of pills involved.
Generally, if you are charged with distributing or possessing with intent to distribute most types of steroids, it is a third degree indictable offense, punishable by 3 to 5 years in prison and $35,000 in fines. These charges become more serious as the amount of dosage units increases, and may be enhanced to a second degree or first degree crime.
Additionally, if you are charged with distributing phencyclidine or PCP, the penalties you face are more severe. You can be charged with a second degree crime if you distribute less than 10 grams of PDP. This offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and with fines of up to $150,000. It is a first degree offense to distribute 10 grams or more of PCP and, if convicted of this offense, you can face up to 20 years in prison, with a minimum term of up to half your sentence with no chance of parole, as well as fines as high as $500,000.
